Blogger Spotlight: Erin Loechner
Posted on November 18, 2010 by Anna Denise
One of the reasons for starting this blog is because I'm a self-confessed blog junkie, spending hours on the web, checking out blogs, artists and shops I love. In the Blogger Spotlight section of this blog, I will interview those bloggers that have been and continue to be a huge inspiration to me. Who are they?
I'm thrilled and honored to start off this series with an interview with Erin Loechner of Design for Mankind. I don't just love her blog, I'm obsessed with it. Her curating is magnificent and her writing almost always makes me laugh out loud (well, sniffle out loud. I don't think I ever laugh out loud when I'm by myself. Do you?).
Could you tell us a little bit about yourself and your blog?
Yes! I'm Erin Loechner, currently living in the Midwest (although my head lives elsewhere most of the time!). My blog is really just a mish (the proper term, I'm sure!) of things I love and inspirations I want to remember always.
What made you start blogging and what expectations did you have when you started?
My blog was just a catalyst for creativity, really -- I've always been a writer and needed that sort of outlet to collect my thoughts. I had super low expectations, and didn't even share the link with anyone I knew! It really was a personal thing for me --- an image dump, if you will.
How do you see your blog evolving over time? You published a wonderful magazine a while back, will it come back? What's next? A TV Show? (Yes, that counts as one question)
You know, I'm actually working on a re-design at the moment. I want the blog to really reflect who I am as a whole, rather than just the part of me that loves art. It's difficult to explain, but you'll see. :)
As for the magazine, I LOVED producing my magazine. I still dream of doing it again someday, but the online format just didn't work for me. I needed print, needed the tangibility of something in my hands. Perhaps someday if I can save enough money to jump-start the project, Mankind Mag can return. In the mean time, I'm open to a TV show, sure! Have your people call my people. Kidding. It's just me. And my husband, I suppose, and the dogs. :)
How much of 'you' do show online and is this an issue for you?
Ha, that's funny, because I do plan to show a bit more than I have in the past. I'm an open book, really. Although I won't be sharing anything personal about my family. It's just not something I want to do; open my loved ones up to online craziness.

What are two of your favorite posts you ever wrote?
Oh goodness! You're going to make me work, aren't you? I can't choose my forever favorites (there are over 5,000 posts in my archive!), so I'll pick my favorite from this month? I'm going to choose pom pom animal sculptures and pom pom hats (clearly, I'm on some sort of pom pom kick this month, yes?).
What blogs do you yourself read daily?
I have dozens in my Google Reader that I check in on every once in awhile, but I'm a religious follower of Amateur Couture (who also contributes to my own blog every Friday). That girl has quite the eye!
Thank you so much Erin and we're looking forward to seeing the renewed blog!
Thanks for having me!
